Beskydy play a vibrant mix of folk traditions rooted in the dance rhythms and song melodies of Moravia, Bohemia, and Slovakia – the homelands around the Beskydy mountains that give the band its name. From there, our repertoire unfolds across Central and Eastern Europe, reaching into the Hungarian plains, along the Danube basin, and down to the Black Sea. We weave in the soulful strains of Klezmer, echoing the Jewish communities who carried their tunes along the same ancient trade routes that also bore the music of Gypsies, Ottomans, Magyars and Celts.
From Istanbul’s bazaars to the bustling port of Odessa, these songs have been shaped, shared and re-invented across borders for centuries. Beskydy bring this living tradition to life with energy, authenticity and joyful dance rhythms that will get audiences on their feet.

They have appeared at The Purcell Room and Queen Elizabeth Hall on London’s Southbank, the Harrow Arts Centre, and thrilled audiences in the Royal Albert Hall’s Ignite series. Their music has provided a special atmosphere at The National Theatre and The Royal Festival Hall, and their tours have taken them from celebrated festivals in the Czech Republic to unforgettable weddings in Transylvania, and to the world stage at WOMAD.
On air, they have been privileged to perform for Ned Sherrin’s Loose Ends, and on stage they shared the spotlight with The Real Tuesday Weld, collaborating in the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Propaganda from the State of Love commission. Their live performances were recognised by Time Out Magazine with the award of “Critics’ Choice: Live Performance.”
